No Plan, No Gain

by firmbodies.com on Feb.08, 2010, under Goal Setting, Self Improvement

Success comes from great planning. It rings true for every aspect of life, most especially in the fitness profession. After all, without a plan, how will your clients meet their goals?

One of the biggest and quickest ways to fail is to not have a plan. Can you imagine a play without a script, well, okay but even improve has structure and guidelines? Kids’ birthday parties even have plans. In simpler terms, you don’t get what you want unless you put in the effort. Therefore, decide what you really want and make a plan for it.

What is the difference between wishful thinking and a solid plan?

Start by looking ahead. What do you want and where do you want to go with it? Planning comes from knowing your destination.

Just like you need to know where you’re going, you also need to know where you’re starting from.

When you can clearly see your present situation and also have your eye on your goal, then it’s easier to address what you may have to deal with in between. Ask yourself why you want to attain the goal you have set. At times, asking that yourself why may even change your vision of the goal. For example, if a person wants to lose 20 pounds but doesn’t even have an exercise routine or diet, then the goal is pointless. If that same person wants to lose 50 pounds before a special event in the future, you can help him or her target a plan to move closer to that goal step by step.

Regardless of if you’re planning for your fitness training business or a client’s training routine, putting everything on paper is best. When you put your plan on paper, it makes it become something real, a tangible product.

Don’t think you’re done once you’ve written out your plan. Examine it and identify potential barriers that can hamper progress. Take note of those and think about how you can deal with them. When you do this, you’ve got a “Plan B”.” Things do not always go as we plan, so it’s best to have a backup plan.

No planning at all ultimately leads to failure. Get it on paper so that it serves as your guide map in every step of the way towards your goals. Be flexible enough to modify your plans when unforeseen circumstances arise. Don’t just have a plan; have a “plan B,” too.

Once you have your plan, define your fitness marketing strategy and work that plan.
